Review | Benton Aloe BHA Skin Toner

Another toner review...how typical of me!

The Benton Aloe BHA Skin Toner was my first ever Korean toner and I was so SHOCKED by how different and amazing it was from other American toners. American toners are very astringent - they are meant to clean dirt off the face and they strip the natural oils from the face in the process of doing so. I've always hated using American toners because they leave you with that dry, stretched out skin feeling. Korean toners on the other hand are moisturizing but also cleanse the face. So by using a Korean toner, you get more of the benefits!

Here's a detailed product on reasons why this toner is such a gem:

Packaging: Like many Benton products, it's no frills, and has a spray pump with a cap, 200 ml size, approx 6.7 ounces

Pricing / Purchasing: $14-19 and can be purchased at the following vendors:

Color / Consistency: Thin, very water-like with clear coloring. You will notice, if you are a toner-holic like me, that many Korean toners are clear in color - I believe this is because there is a desire not to use ingredients that are extraneous and do not provide direct benefits to the user. In other words, attaining skin purity means using products that are also pure.

You can tell it is watery by how it slides right off the hand.

Scent: Almost no scent

Ingredients: Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Water, Sodium Hyaluronate, Snail Secretion Filtrate, Glycerin, Zanthoxylum Piperitum Fruit Extract, Pulsatilla Koreana Extract, Usnea Barbata (Lichen) Extract, Salicylic Acid(0.5%), Arginine, Althaea rosea flower extract, Aloe barbadensis leaf extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Beta-Glucan, Polyglutamic Acid, Aspalathus Linearis Extract, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Psidium Guajava Fruit Extract, Acrylates/ C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer

Pros:
  • Good for reducing redness and calming the skin down especially for normal / combination skin
  • Would use this after a hot day in the sun; an especially good toner for the summer
  • Applies smoothly
  • Quite moisturizing - you can feel the difference immediately
  • Reduces the appearance of blackheads - this is because of the BHA. BHA is an exfoliant that clears out the dark stuff at the top of your skin that gives your blackheads that dark and yucky appearance
  • Brightens skin
  • Gentle
  • For the price and consistency one bottle goes a long way, my first bottle lasted me around 4-5 months
  • This toner can be used during every season

Cons:
  • If you have oily skin this does not have the robust sebum eliminating properties as other Korean toners like the Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Pore Toner that I reviewed in this post. In other words, In other words, I wouldn't necessarily recommend this toner for those with oily skin.

Overall comments: Two huge thumbs up for this product. This is a great introduction to Korean toners for those who are looking to make the switch / try a Korean toner out for the first time. I would definitely recommend this for anyone looking for a gentle moisturizing toner and for anyone who wants to reduce the appearance of their blackheads. It has become a staple in my toner arsenal and will be a back up for years to come.

Overall rating: 4.5 / 5.0
