Style | Parker NY Sample Sale Recap

Although this is not as helpful as Sample Sally's blog, which follows NYC sample sales on before / on the first day of sales, I do like to go to sample sales on the last day to check out if there are additional markdowns (just to save a few more $$$ and I since I love a good deal).

For those that have never been to a sample sale, a sample sale only runs a few days (2-5 approximately). From what I've experienced, the sale is initially advertised with a certain % off. Around mid-way point of the sale, sometimes additional markdowns are made. On the last day, markdowns are typically made, and sometimes, if you are lucky, during the last few hours of the sale there will be even more markdowns on top of the other rounds of markdowns. I didn't know this was a thing until I stayed until closing at the Joie and  Equipment sample sale last year and basically got an entire spring wardrobe of tops for ~$150 at everything ~80% off.

The Parker sale took place last week from 4/20-4/21. I own one Parker bustier top, one of their classic styles made out of silk, so I wanted to go check the sale. For those of you unfamiliar with the brand, they have some very girly pieces - a very Taylor Swift sort of look. The sale had a broad collection of sequined pieces (tops, dresses, skirts), some although the selection was not extensive of non sequin dresses, a few bustier tops left in bright red and pink. Many of the items would have been good for spring time dressing. They also had an interesting assortment of shoes that I think had been worn during fashion shoots, but I didn't think it was worth it to browse through them.

See below for some photos I took of the merchandise:

I really liked the orange and blue sequin combination!

This screams spring / summer to me!

I saw on their twitter that samples (items that may not necessarily made it to retail, were samples in the design process, etc.) had been marked down to $30. In other words, I went in there thinking I could find some stuff for $30, but nope. By the time I had come, all the samples were virtually gone. But that of course is the risk in going to a sample sale late in the sale.

Pricing - these are approximate, I actually forgot to take a picture...

  • Sequin / beaded dresses were $150-$180
  • Sequin /beaded separates were $100
  • Samples were $60 --> Marked down to $30 on the last day
  • Non sequin dresses were $80
  • Tops were $60
  • Additional markdowns of up to $10 off the original prices were made approximately in the last 15 minutes of the sale, but wasn't well publicized
Overall these prices are decent considering Parker's beadwork is very detailed, their sequin dresses often have an MSRP of  $400+ and many of their items are made of silk.

My "Learnings"
  • Parker does sequins and beadwork like no other - very high quality, great designs, and the beadwork covers the front and the back completely. (Sometimes that is rare...) I was actually amazed how in love I was with the skirt I tried on (pictured below). I've never had a sequin skirt catch the light and sparkles as nicely as Parker's skirts do. I would have purchased it, except for the fact that it was slightly too small (only small's left) and for $100, that's not cheap at all.
Soooo many sparkles!!!
  • If I ever have an occasion where I want to buy a full beaded sequin dress for a cocktail party, I will go with a Parker dress. The white and black sequin dresses are SO pretty and super classy looking.
Like crystals!
  • They had a good assortment of sizes - sometimes sales will only have very tiny sizes or very large sizes left
  • Staff did a good job of keeping the sales floor clean
  • Although I didn't end up buying anything this time, I would check the sale out next time they have one if I had an special occasion in mind

Until the next sale!
